Dear Member-Owner of Urban Greens Food Co-op,
Please join us for our Annual Membership Meeting Sunday, November 6th at 6:00 pm at the West Broadway Neighborhood Association, 1560 Westminster St. The Annual Meeting is an important time for all Member-Owners to come together to:
• Renew your excitement about bringing a food co-op to the west side of Providence
• Get updated and filled-in on what the council has been working on
• Vote for new council members
• Come and hang out with your neighbors, friends, and fellow co-op enthusiasts
• Bring a pie for our First Annual Pie Contest!
• Learn about opportunities to get more involved
Before the meeting please email us nominations for new council members and consider nominating yourself. Council membership involves working with a small core group of member-owners to help make the co-op a reality – time commitment is flexible and council members are encouraged to work on things that they are most interested in.
The council will be bringing soup and bread to the meeting – and though this is not a traditional potluck, you are welcome to bring a dish to share as well (and don’t forget your soon-to-be-award-winning pie!). Child care will be provided and children are most welcome. We will also be collecting nonperishable food donations for the Rhode Island Food Bank -- please bring a nonperishable food item with you. For a list of the most-needed items, please go to http://www.rifoodbank.org (click on “Get Involved”, then “Donate Food”).
Additionally, we just wanted to remind you about our partnership with the local nonprofit, People’s Power & Light.
Local, healthy food & Local, green energy – A perfect pairing
It is great that you already make the sustainable choice to support local, natural food with Urban Greens, and now you can support local energy resources too! Sign up to get 100% green power right now with New England GreenStartSM to say, “Yes, in my back yard!”
When you sign up you’ll still receive the same service from National Grid, but your electricity usage will be matched with local renewable energy resources to displace the fossil fuel and nuclear resources that your electricity payments otherwise support. New England GreenStart costs a little more in addition to your regular electricity service. To switch 100% of your electricity consumption to support clean power, it's an additional 2.4 cents per kilowatt hour, or about $14 a month for the average home. And since People’s Power & Light is a non-profit, the premium is 100% tax-deductible on your federal taxes!
When you join GreenStart, you can also support Urban Greens Food Co-op! If you let People’s Power & Light know you heard about them from us, they will make a $100 donation to Urban Greens for your first year of being a GreenStart member.
To sign up for New England GreenStart, fill in your personal information along your National Grid electricity account number on the enclosed postcard, and just drop it in the mail. You can also learn more and sign up by going to www.ripower.org or by calling People's Power & Light at 401-861-6111.
We look forward to working with you to build a more sustainable future!
Sincerely,
The Urban Greens Cooperative Council
