HOSTS PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Providence, May 26, 2010 – Urban Greens Food Co-op announces its Pancake Breakfast to be held on Saturday, June 5th at the Federal Hill House, located at 9 Courtland St, from 9am-12noon. Urban Greens has almost doubled its membership during its Spring Member Drive and plans to finish off with a celebration. Members of the public are invited to come meet Urban Greens for pancakes and fair-trade coffee. They can purchase a founding share in the co-op if they haven’t already, bring the kids for potato stamping, listen to live music, and browse a silent auction.

Urban Greens Food Co-op is a local and natural food market opening on the West Side of Providence. The market will be fully stocked with affordable, natural, and organic foods, bulk items, and local produce. Memberships cost $160, and can be paid in installments. They are available to low-income families for $80. Memberships can be purchased at the Pancake Breakfast or online at www.urbangreens.com.
Urban Greens currently has 200 member-owners and is governed by a Cooperative Council, elected by the membership. In addition to voting rights, members will participate directly in major decisions affecting the store and may receive discounts and access to special sales. Membership dollars will help secure the financing necessary to open the market. Urban Greens has a goal of reaching 1,000 members by the time the doors to the new store open.
The development of the market reflects Urban Greens’ commitment to bringing healthy food into the City. “Our communities need access to fresh, local food,” said Deb Rosenberg of Providence, Registered Nurse and Cooperative Council member. “Urban Greens Cooperative Market will provide not only a local grocery store for the neighborhood and all of Providence, but also a convenient way to make healthy food choices.”
Urban Greens is thrilled to be partnering with the Federal Hill House for this event. A human service agency that provides early learning, job training, nutrition education, and everything in between, the Federal Hill House reaches out to the people from our community to improve their quality of life. Both Urban Greens and the Federal Hill House strive to increase access to healthy food for residents on the west side of Providence.
